MAC Emanuel Ungaro: It's On!

Today is MAC day for me: first post of the day was about Viva Glam V lipstick and the second post of the day is about MAC's newest limited edition: MAC Emanuel Ungaro. As I mentioned many times before, this is the most anticipated collection for me because I love the ultra-feminine colors that Ungaro does in his collections. Last night I did the craziest thing ever since I started using MAC: I stayed up really late to see when this collection was launched online. Until around 1 am, I did not see anything and went to bed with disappointment.

This morning, the first thing I did was to check MAC website again and until 9:15 am there was still no new collection, boo! But then it happened y'all, it happened!

I have to say this year's designer's collection (Ungaro) is much bigger than last year's (McQueen): more colors, more variety, and more strange stuff we don't usually buy (beauty powder, cream colour base, see thru lip color). However, it lacks one thing that I really really love: the paint pot.

Initially, there was one paint pot listed in the lineup called "Essential Beige" and until a few days ago, MAC people in the web chat swore to me that it would be included in the collection. However, I logged on today and spoof! No paint pot for me! Why MAC why? Why do you tease me? You know I heart paint pots! I do hope MAC people read this blog entry and release that paint pot for me. From the way it was described to me, it's a frosty version of Painterly and I bet it would be one heck of a pretty lady.

What am I going to buy, that's a tough question. One thing I know for sure: I need to place my order ASAP! MAC LEs like this one are notoriously quick to sell. I missed McQueen by an inch and in my life, I regret not experiencing the awesome blue-green paint pot from that collection, damn! So please peeps, don't make that mistake and go online now to get yourself some Ungaro makeup.

You're Gonna Love Me: MAC Emanuel Ungaro

As I promised y'all yesterday, today I'm posting something that we're all looking forward to next month: the MAC Emanuel Ungaro collection! Thanks to the wonderful Marie Claire magazine, I was able to see two products of this collection that were used in the Ungaro fall fashion show runway. And Oh. My. Gawd, my mouth hung open and I tried my best to wipe the drool off my face. Marie Claire teased us with an image of a lustre lipstick in Pure Rose and an eyeshadow called Mineral and both of them are gorgeous. See for yourself, I can't help but took some couple of snapshots at the image.

Ungaro designer Esteban Cortazar was inspired from Claude Monet's "Water Lilies" and wanted an earthy, smokey eye look. He mentioned that the brown is not flat but "a blend of green, blue, lilac, and fuchsia. The lips were stained with a pink that looks like crushed flower petals". Interesting! And by the way, Monet was one of my favorite artists and I love the serene of his paintings.

Can't wait for MAC Emanuel Ungaro to hit the store! I'm aggressively saving my money just for this collection and praying it won't disappoint me.

Feminine FOTD: A Haiku to MAC Emanuel Ungaro Collection

Hi Ladies,

Do you know what day is it? It's the day MAC Emanuel Ungaro is supposed to be on sale! Apparently MAC decided to move the release date of this collection to 10/08/08, boo! I was really looking forward to this collection but apparently we all have to wait a bit longer. Ungaro is famous for his feminine style with a lot of pink, purple, and brown. After studying the line-up for MAC Emanuel Ungaro, I realize I can make a look using products that are similar to the ones in this LE. My goal is to create a feminine look that is cheerful and soft.

• Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush eyeshadow in Laguna Peach applied all over the lid using its own applicator ("pink eyeshadow" as referred in the picture above)
• Brown color from Wet n Wild Mega Glo in Spotlight Peach as a contouring color ("brown eyeshadow to contour" in the picture)
• Lightest color in the Mega Glo palette to highlight
• Wet n Wild eyeliner in Lilac (650C) used as a purple eyeliner
• Maybelline the Colossal mascara

Cheeks: Maybelline Pure Blush in Pure Passion (retired item from Maybelline)
Lips: MAC Plink! lustre lipstick topped with a pinker lipstick to try to dupe Pure Rose lipstick.

MAC News: MAC Limited Collections of August-September

Attention all MAC addicts! Please save your money accordingly because in the next couple of weeks, things are going to be hot! Here are the preliminary information plucked straight from Specktra blog regarding the upcoming 5 LE collections.

Collection #1: Cult of Cherry, August 21st, 2008

This collection sends me straight to Temptation Island as the three quads are equally drool-worthy! On top of that MAC will also release 5 lipsticks and 5 lip glasses that look so awesome! Brokesville, here I come!

Collection #2: Overrich, also on August 21st, 2008!

For those who collect pigments, this collection is for you. MAC will release 8 pigments in this collection and from the way it sounds, these guys are interesting: gold, green, bronzed, burnt orange, brown, deep burgundy, and me saying "oh my god"!

Collection #3: Suite Array, September 25th, 2008

MAC introduces 2 novel products: eyeshadow suite and pearlglide liners. According to the good people from Specktra, the eyeshadow suite is a duo of a lighter and darker eyeshadow while the pearlglide liners are soft and safe for contact lense wearer. Read more here.

Collection #4: Gold Fever, also on 9/25/08

This collection is going to be sold at Nordstrom and it has a little bit of everything: slimshine, shadesticks, glitters, pigments, liners, fluidlines, brushes and lashes. Not much information available at this point but you can read about it here at Specktra.

Collection #5: Ungaro for MAC, also on 9/25/08

When I heard about this collection about um, 4 months ago, I decided to aggressively save up some good amount of money for it. After all, Ungaro is one of the famous fashion houses in Europe and i remember growing up glueing to the French fashion magazines like a magnet. So yeah, I'm definitely going to get myself some Ungaro!

However, the catch is this collection is only available at selected locations such as Bendels, Bloomingdales, Gibbons, MAC Stores, Nordstrom, Saks, maccosmetics.com in the U.S. It's also not available in China, Indonesia and the Philippines. So you bet I'm going to head to... online to order myself some of those. Btw, it has at least a paint pot! Yay!

Demure FOTD

I looked back at the content of my entries recently and realized I did not post any new FOTDs for approximately 2 weeks. If you're wondering what's going on, let me tell you why: after the Ungaro release, I began doing the same look over and over again using the same group of colors. I think the ultra-feminine side of me finally took over and I'm now enjoying soft pink eye shadows! This is something very new to me and I have to say for the past 2 weeks, makeup became a bit more predictable but nevertheless, I'm not any bit less happier.

This is the look I'm talking about, you first saw it here if I remember correctly

I fell in love with Ungaro-style makeup and Adorned with Grace did not make it any easier when giving me the best foundation and eyeshadow I could dream of. So for the past 2 weeks, I sported the cutest pink makeup ever. This look is pretty but not girly, it does not scream "I'm obsessed with pink!" but gives a sophisticated vibe. And I think I dig that.

Eyes: surprisingly you don't need a lot of products. However, pinks are not captured well with my camera so everything looks kind of brown. Please click here and here for swatches of the eye shadows I use.

Sci-fi schematic explained below

• Trustworthy is applied all over the lid area using a MAC 239 brush. You can foil (apply wet) the color if you want a more intense level of color saturation.
• Adorable is applied as a contouring color using a blending brush. I personally prefer a lot of pink to contour to bring out more pink-ness in the look. However, if you prefer to have a more neutral look, apply this color lightly. An alternative to Adorable is Hard Candy Taffy eyeshadow since they look similar to each other.
• Using the same brush, apply Brilliant to the area underneath the eyebrow to highlight.
• Using a black liquid eyeliner to line your eyes and apply 2 coats of black mascara.

Cheeks: AwG Sassy blush, a very cute pink blush, using a stippling brush. Since AwG blushes are really pigmented, a stippling brush like MAC 187 is necessary.


Lips: MAC Ungaro Not So Shy! lip stain and MAC Sugar Trance lip glass (from Fafi collection). I find that Sugar Trance really tone down the berry color of Not So Shy and gives it a perfect pink.

Loving Touch See Thru Lip Colour from A Rose Romance Collection

Hi y'all!

How are you doing today? Last weekend, I went for a walk in the mall and bumped into the MAC kiosk at Dillard's. The local Dillard's has a counter inside of the store and a kiosk near the food court and my experience implicates the kiosk the place to be. The staff are friendlier and more helpful there than at the counter while the amount of products for sale is the same. MAC, as we all know, churns out limited editions faster than we can say "abracadabra". While my mind is still hung up on the Hello Kitty edition (hello?!), MAC now has a new color story called "A Rose Romance". After many moons of complaining how sucky mediocre the last many LEs have been, "A Rose Romance" looks like a more interesting and decent color story, how refreshing!

After my stint with see thru lip colour from the Ungaro collection back in last summer, I developed my love of this type of makeup. Take it or leave it, see thru lip colours are long lasting and can look very fabulous with some glosses on top. So I was uber-thrilled to see three see thru lip colours on the lineup of this LE. They are: Loving Touch, Secret Crush, and Temp Tryst. After trying Temp Tryst, I realized it is way too dark for me. Secret Crush looks exactly the same as Not so Shy! from Ungaro. Which means Loving Touch is mine, mine, mine!

Loving Touch is a very beautiful soft pink color that matches the natural color of my lips. It is cooling after application and lasts for a very long time. In fact, the swatch did not come off after I washed my hand. The MUA tried to explain to me that it is not a lip gloss about a hundred times (ok, I exaggerated, she said it maybe 4 times!) Then she refused to give me a sample of Circa Plum pigment and explained to me that it's not the store policy to give out samples for things you can try in store. (Maybe she was mad that I only bought one product? But later on when I went to pay, I saw Viva Glam VI and really wanted to buy but she rushed me!)

But that was not the most interesting part of the visit. After inspecting the tubes of see thru lip colours on the display, I asked her if they were full size. The conversation went like this:

Me: (holding a tube of see thru lip colour) Excuse me, is this full size?
MUA: (looked quite annoyed) Yes, it is.
Me: (spoke in slightly high pitched voice) Really? I remember my See Thru Lip Colour from Ungaro collection being the same size of the lip glass.
MUA: (now looked quite embarassing) I don't know, I think they reduce the size of the tube. I don't know why.
Me: That's cheap!
MUA: (looked half amused, half stunned) Do you want it or not?
Me: Ok, yeah.

The bottom line is: I am a sucker for MAC. Even though I know being cheaped out, I still ended up with a Loving Touch plus 15 dollars and some change lighter in my pocket. However, I did not do that without my own agenda. And here it is:

Trivia for you: The one on the left is a See Thru Lip Colour, so is the one on the right
The one on the left came from a limited edition, so was the one on the right
The one on the left costs me 14 dollars, so is the one on the right
Now, here's the question: which one is bigger?

And here's another question: Of the three products above, which of the two have the same size?

And now here are the answers: the old see thru lip colour is about twice as big as the new one, and the new one has the same size as the glitter gel liner. And if I am not wrong, I believe Loving Touch has the same size as the holiday LE lip glosses in the jar, which are a whole lot smaller than the regular size (and a whole lot cheaper per unit as well!) So here's a question for you Makeup Art Cosmetics: why do you sell sample size products at full size prices? Do you think we are unaware of what you've done? Also, with this economy, shrinking the sizes of your products as well as jacking up the price is not cool. You did it to pigments, we complaint. Now you do it to the see thru lip colours as well?!

Finally, it seems like MAC loves to label the same color with different names. Maybe when it comes to scanning the color in the NMR, there will be two slightly different spectrum but in my naked eyes, Not so Shy! and Secret Crush look identical. (MAC did it before with a LE lip glass called "Elle" which I happen to love, so yeah, I do hold umbridge!)

In my book, I go by this saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, shame on both of us." MAC hit me more than three strikes but I am still a sucker (but if you noticed, my MAC purchases have reduced significantly!) So MAC, if your people happen to read my blog, please I beg you: whatever you are doing DO NOT work! Shrinking product sizes, increasing the prices, and producing tons of sub-par LEs do not make us love you more. We KNOW! So please go back to the old MAC where the products were fun and interesting, the MUAs were knowledgeable and helpful, and the prices were a lot more reasonable*.

Wow, that's quite a rant and I may get some hate mails after this but to be honest with you, I do not hate Loving Touch as a color. As a product, yes, because I know it can be much bigger. The see thru lip colour formula is not as dense as lip glasses and evaporate a lot faster. I barely use my Not so Shy! but it's already 1/3 gone, which means Loving Touch will go much faster! So I am going to hit the drugstore and get me some Cover Girl lip stain. Words on the street say it's pretty good. So stay tuned for part 2: War of the Lip Stains!

MAC Did It Again: MAC for Manish Arora

This is unbelievable ladies, just last week I wrote my rant about Ungaro collection and now MAC just released their newest collaboration with Manish Arora online! This collection is less known than the previous one but to be honest with you, you should get this one if funky and colorful makeup is your style. 3 Ways to Rock Your Lip Stains

This season, lip stains are back in the game and they are better than ever! MAC’s latest limited edition “A Rose Romance” consists of three lip stains while Cover Girl released their Outlast lipstains last year. Compared to lipsticks and glosses, lip stains are lightweight and long lasting. Unlike the ones in the past, the current renditions of lip stains are comfortable to wear thank to water attracting ingredients such as glycerin and sodium hyaluronate.

Lip stains are versatile and can be combined with lipsticks and lip glosses to enhance their colors and prolong wearing time. For those who fear of the disappearing act their lipsticks pull after lunch or dinner, fear no more, my friends! Lip stains are here to save the day!

Top-bottom: MAC see thru lip colour in Loving Touch (A Rose Romance collection), Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain in Tenderbloom Kiss, and MAC see thru lip colour in Not so Shy! (Emanuel Ungaro collection).

With your favorite lipsticks, and glosses, I am going to show you three ways to have fun with your new lip stains. Ready, set, go!

1. With lip gloss

Although we can wear lip stains by themselves, they lack the glossiness that we love in lip glosses and sometimes in high shine lipsticks. By coupling with your favorite lip gloss, you now have both shine and long lasting color.



I like to wear Loving Touch lip stain with my favorite lipglass Sugar Trance from Fafi collection. Since these two colors are similar to each other, they make my lips look so glossy and full.

If you do not have a lip glass that complements your lip stain, do not fret! Your clear lip gloss works just fine to add shine to your lips. You can eat, drink, and gossip until the wee hour without having the lipless look.

2. With lipstick

When I was a kid, my mom always told me the horror of the vanishing lipsticks. Mom used to say, “Remember to layer your lipsticks, use two colors, blot the first color first before applying the second one! That way you don’t miss out anything because you don’t have to go to the bathroom to reapply your lipstick!”

Well, I have to admit, my mom was right! After many years of absorbing such wisdom, I never really used it because I do not like lipstick that much. The ones in the old days were drying and waxy while the colors were not so flattering. Now, most lipsticks out there are more moisturizing but unless you use long lasting lipsticks, they do not last after lunch. The pearl of wisdom my mom told me to prolong her lipstick staying power is very simple: by blotting off the first layer, she creates a stain that binds to her lips. When the top layer washes off, the stain remains.

Of course, I can do like my mother told me but (a) I do not like lipstick that much and (b) I’m lazy and I don’t like to blot. So here comes the lip stain!


I layer Plink! lipstick on top of Everbloom Kiss lip stain, Drew Barrymore’s color in the ads. So far, this is a winning combo to me as the lip stain is comfortable to wear and the lipstick is moisturizing and shiny. The lasting power is amazing! One day, I wore this combo to have some pizza with my friend. After an intense session of pizza chomping and talking, my lips still had some color on. Of course, the lipstick wore off by the third slice of pizza but the stain remained. I definitely use this technique whenever I go to a party.

3. With both lipstick and lip gloss

All right, are you ready for this? I’m saving the best for last, ladies. This technique I discovered with serendipity and it makes my lips look a lot fuller and juicier. When the Ungaro LE came out, I got Pure Rose lipstick that I had a hard time to use. The color is really pale and unless purposely I want to look ghastly, that lipstick does not get a lot of use out of it, which is a shame since it is a nice color. So, one day I decided to make it work and played around with a whole bunch of things. The result was in some ways, amazing!


After applying Pure Rose lipstick, I drawed Not so Shy! lip stain in a heart shape on the Cupid bow of my upper lip and an invert triangle on my lower lip. The colors may look obvious now, so I need a lip gloss to even things out.


Then I apply the clear lipgloss over the areas that I applied the lip stain to blend it into my lipstick. The result is a darker shade at the center of my lips. This way, your lips do not look too overdone with lip gloss but a whole lot fuller thanks to the lip stain.

Sorry for the late post today, ladies! The maintenance guy came and fix the AC unit in the house and it took some hours. After that, I had to vacuum and clean the house a bit to make it look more presentable. Also, thank you so much for all of your wishes yesterday. I am so touched!

Musings on MAC Limited Editions

Today is Friday, yay! I always feel more relaxed on Friday and as relaxed as I am right now, let's do something a bit different today. Let's not talk about FOTD, product review, upcoming LE, etc etc. However, let's discuss a little bit of what we want to see from our favorite Canadian makeup company MAC and their our LE's if we ever got to sit in the chair of a MAC creative director.

First of all, words on the street have it that MAC and Sanrio will have a colaboration coming out in spring 2009. And you know who's ruling the Sanrio empire, ya? It's Hello Kitty y'all. Imagine MAC and Hello Kitty, hello? Awesomely fantabulous girlish pinkish collection!

According to NY Mag and other sources, the release of this collection will follow the trend set by Barbie Loves MAC and Fafi collection which were released in February. However, "A M.A.C representative would neither confirm nor deny the deal." Interesting, I say. Morever, I really want to see it happen because (a) Barbie Loves MAC was da bomb, and (b) Fafi rocked my world. So if Hello Kitty decided to join team MAC, it would not be a bad thing for us, after all. Just imagine the cute Hello Kitty image on your lip glass, people. Just imagine.

Here are some other collaborations that I pray to happen, as I'm relaxed and bored happy:

If MAC ever get to collaborate with Marc Jacobs, the great American fashion designer of our time, all of us MAC fans will go crazy! Technically, it can be a possibility because in the past, Alexander McQueen and Heatherette already did their collections. In September, Ungaro also will release his and Ungaro is a huge and mainstream couture brand. On top of that, MJ never did a makeup collection before so there's a possibility. However, MJ is already the head of his company and also the creative director for Louis Vuitton so he probably do not have time. Nevertheless, if you wish, it may come true.

2. MAC and Victoria Beckham

To me, Vicky B is a person whom you either love or hate. The Victoria Beckham we see today is a far cry of Miss Victoria Adams from the Spice Girls. The pob did not just happen overnight as well as that tan and that cold look oh hers. However, to be fair, this woman is packed full of ferocity and fierceness that I've ever seen in anybody else. Plus her husband David is just hot.

Fashion-wise, Victoria Beckham is on top of her game and has a great sense of style. I only wish she can translate it to a makeup collection somehow.

3. Mac for MAC

This one is for the geeks, I mean, science folks. How wonderful the world would be if Steve Jobs collaborated with MAC? Besides, "Mac for MAC" sounds cool, right? And on top of that, Steve Jobs is a marketing genius. Who would name a thin and lightweight laptop "MacBook Air"? Nobody but Monsieur Jobs, I say. Who would have thought of the iPods and iPhones? Nobody else but him.

Imagine what would happen if "Mac for MAC" were released? Multi-functional lipstick that can also works as a lipgloss, liner, highligher, blush, etc. Like an iPhone but in a form of a lipstick. And you can use it to check your email, listen to music, and text messages too! And it would be housed in that sleek and shiny white package that's actually smaller than the size of your regular lipstick. Awesome!

You know what's the best part of it? The lipstick will come with a monthly service plan, kind of like the iPhone plan at AT&T. Release date: sometime in July, then around Thanksgiving the price will go down just in time for the holiday season. Ah, I'm just having so much fun thinking about all these!

MAC Emanuel Ungaro Lip Products Review and Swatch

After all the hypes, rants and raved documented here, my MAC Emanuel Ungaro order came at the beginning of this week but I didn't have time to upload all the info and wrote a review until today. This collection is like a perk of sunshine during the cold months as the colors are soft and very feminine. I only bought 2 lip items that I thought I could use over and over again instead of buying everything from that collection. First of all, my skin does not like any of MAC powders so there's no beauty powder for me. The cream colour base, as tempting as they look, may look greasy on my oily skin and they're not eye safe so I ditched them as well. The eyeshadows are sometime dupe-able and the colors are not that unique so they got left out of the shopping bag. And need I say again, I'm still mad at MAC for not offering the Essential Beige paint pot!

As much as I love this collection, the packaging is kind of blah!

The two lip items I bought are Pure Rose lustre lipstick and Not so Shy! See Thru Lip Colour. Pure Rose was featured in September issue of Marie Claire that I posted here and this color is actually lighter than what it looks when applied to lips. It's very feminine but not girlish. However, this color is dupable and the closest lipstick to it is Plink! from the permanent lustre lipstick line. Also, if you want a creamier and more pigmented lipstick from MAC with the same family of color, go ahead and check out Speed Dial creamsheen lipstick. I actually enjoy the creamsheen one more than Pure Rose.

The second lip item is actually much much more interesting and I think is very versatile to use. If you have to buy one product from this collection, I suggest you run to the counter and get yourself this Not so Shy! see thru lip colour. Yeah, it's that great and I'm not such a big fan of lip stains!

The doe foot sponge applicator

Although it looks very dark and fuchsia-like in the tube, this color is a sheer raspberry color in a gel format. It feels cool when applied to my lips and the color stays on and on and on and on (you get the idea, right?) A word of warning: like all stains, it will make your chapped lips look very prominently chapped. So ladies, exfoliate before you wear it. Also, I like to use my finger to spread it out instead of using the doe foot sponge tip applicator.

As gorgeous as it is, Not so Shy! has no shine in it and unless you're on a relaxed day, you need to couple it with something. First off, I tried it on top of Pure Rose for an extra punch of color because Pure Rose is unbelievably pale. The result, however, was disheartening because all the chapped skin and lines in my lips kind of shined through (*gasped in horror while looked at self in the mirror*) So I went ahead and did the reverse: Not so Shy! first, then Pure Rose and voila, my lips just wanted to speak English with a French accent!
