E.L.F Studio Powder Brush: My New-Found HG!

Hi everybody,

Happy Monday! Recently, I've gotten myself into another brush fiend and found myself checking websites that sell makeup brushes as if there would be no brushes to buy tomorrow. Coincidentally, E.L.F had a 75% off coupon code on their Studio line. From the intelligence I gathered around the Internet, the Studio brushes are a cut above the regular dollar ones. Among them, I've heard praises of the powder brush. At 3 dollars a pop, there's nothing to lose. However, the cost of shipping them from E.L.F is ridiculous but the deal did sweeten it a bit. So I chomped down and got a bunch of powder brushes for myself and others to use.

The good thing is this brush does not disappoint: it is really soft and fluffy, maybe too fluffy for some folks. I've been using it to apply mineral foundation and it does not disappoint. After one layer, my face looked very airbrushed and even. For the first time ever, I did not really need to go to the second layer of mineral foundation as buffing the makeup does even out my skin a lot.

See how big it is? The brush is almost 1.75 inches in diameter!

...and fluffy, too!

However, this brush is not perfect. As I bought more than 1 brush, I got a chance to compare them and all the brushes I bought were poorly cut. If you want to buy them, prepare to do a little bit of trimming yourself as the bristles were assembled unevenly. Also, some brushes are fuller than others and I guess this depends on the batches produced.

After using it for a while, I really enjoy this brush with soft synthetic bristles. Compared to the natural fiber brushes, synthetic ones does not eat up the mineral powder as much. Most of the materials are retained on top and ready to use. As it is a flat top brush, the coverage is from medium to full, which is what I want. With Adorned with Grace mineral foundation, the coverage is full so I use a light hand when I sprinkle my mineral foundation into the swirl bowl. I guess this is a good alternative to Everyday Mineral flat top brush, which costs $10.

(Again, Picassa loves to play this game with me. It's called the side-way picture game!)

That's all for today, lovely folks! Do you have this brush? What do you use it for? Do you like it? Please let me know in the comment box, ok?

  2. What a coincident! I was just looking into this brush then there is your post. However, I didn't end up getting it this time cause it ran out of stock from the site I was ordering stuff from. I will definitely give this a try next time. However do you know how well they work for non-mineral powder?

  4. Hi Onigiri,

You should try it, this powder brush works well with all kind of powder. It even works better than the dual fiber brush to apply foundation.

  5. I have this brush too and it's one of my favourites! I bought it to apply liquid foundation and it gives a beautiful, natural and airbrush finish. It also provides a similar finish when I use it with mineral foundation and I don't need to apply so much powder as when I do when I use my kabuki brush.

  6. Hi Gio,

That's true! I love using it with my mineral foundation. The coverage is a lot better than when I use the kabuki. I'm glad you enjoy it.

  9. Have been using the Elf powder brush i have to say I like the EDM version better, it's softer and less powder ends up flying too. Just sad that EDM no longer has the Super (cheap) custom kit.

I've never tried the EDM flat top brush so I can't compare. I'm glad you like it. I miss the custom kit, too!
